85-year-old killed in Oceanside auto accident

An 85-year-old man who was trying to cross a street in Oceanside last night was struck by a Jeep and subsequently died from his injuries, according to police.

Nassau County Police reported that the male was attempting to cross Oceanside Road at the corner of Davidson Avenue at 9 p.m. on July 12 when a 2011 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 62-year-old female, hit him. He was transported to a nearby hospital but “succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased,” a police spokesperson said.

While the man suffered multiple trauma injuries, according to a news release, the woman was not injured. Polie said she remained at the scene and the Jeep was impounded for a brake and safety check.
