High-risk high school sports in New York State such as basketball, football, wrestling, hockey, volleyball and competitive cheer will be permitted to proceed beginning Feb. 1 as long as county health departments approve competitive play within its jurisdiction, Gov. In the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, Calhoun, Kennedy and Mepham High Schools combine their students to form teams in bowling and boys’ swimming, while each has its own boys’ and girls’ track teams. more
South Side High School is one of few in the county with teams in all four sports that were allowed to start practice Jan. 4. In addition to bowling, gymnastics and track and field, South Side combines with Lynbrook to share a boys’ swimming and diving team, dubbed “SouthBrook.” more
